Why a Regional Leadership Development Program?
Regional economies are becoming more complex and more interconnected. It is becoming more important for community leaders to look beyond the boundaries of their individual home towns to the region as a whole. Effective leadership for the 21st century will increasingly demand a regional understanding of, and approach to, issues.

Regional issues like economic development, transportation infrastructure, water quality and availability, tourism, labor force development, environmental protection, just to name a few, affect all communities in our region and can be more effectively dealt with when communities work together.

Many smaller communities in Southwest Missouri do not have the resources to sustain leadership development programs over time. Key leaders in those communities do not have the benefit of a local leadership development program, much less a regionally based program.

  Providing Regional Leadership Development
Missouri State University, in Springfield, Missouri, offers a regional leadership development program called GOLD: Greater Ozarks Leadership Development. GOLD provides important leadership development training for all communities in Southwest Missouri, to enhance community building know-how across the region, and to foster a broad network of communication and collaboration.
